Brothers Big Sisters of the Desert has received many honors, demonstrating the quality of our programs and the people who “make the magic” happen.
The Board of Trustees received the Robert L. Kommerstad Leadership Award Board of The Year by Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and the Nationwide Leadership Council of Big Brothers Big Sisters for their outstanding leadership. “BBBSD was recognized for their strong leadership, visionary thinking, strategic planning and performance management that has resulted in incredible growth and impact on children in the community,” said Tisha Frank, Director of Agency Development for BBBSA. Board President Frank Gaeta adds, “This award is a wonderful recognition of the hard work of so many people. We have more to do. There are many more children who can benefit from having a mentor.”
Executive Director Judy May was chosen as Honorable Mention, CEO of the Year. She was recognized for her leadership resulting in amazing growth: 200% growth in children served and 47% growth in revenue over the past four years.
Big Brother Bill Simmons was named 2006 State of California Big Brother of the Year by the California State Association of Big Brothers Big Sisters from among 8,000 volunteers in the state for his dedication and impact on his little brother, Danlin. They have been matched since June 2000. “Bill’s dedication and commitment to his Little Brother over the past six years is truly an example of the benefits of our one-to-one mentoring program,” said Judy May.
